National Skilled Nursing Care Week (NSNCW), formally referred to as National Nursing Home Week, begins on Mother's Day and usually is celebrated for the entire week. This is a great time to educate, advocate, and celebrate all of the work, care, and accomplishments that have been made to provide and offer quality of life and quality of care to those who reside in skilled nursing care homes. Recreation and Activity professionals are often given the task of providing all of the events this week, but I remind the reader that this should be something organized and facilitated by ALL departments. I encourage the Recreation and Activity Directors to have a planning meeting with all department heads and assign tasks accordingly. It really should be a team approach.
The 2025 theme for National Skilled Nursing Care Week, May 11-17th, is “Tapestry of Life . The American Health Care Association (AHCA) stated that the "Tapestry of Life highlights the meaningful stories that make up each person’s journey in skilled nursing care. From residents and families to caregivers and staff, everyone adds a unique thread that is woven into this vibrant tapestry. This theme celebrates the connections, resilience and strength that unite us all."
