Larimar is a blue/green variety of a mineral called Pectolite. Pectolite can be found all over the world in various colors but only the blue/green variety, called Larimar, is found in the Dominican Republic. Larimar is pretty rare. Larimar is volcanic copper combined with calcium. It ranges from blue to blue-green with swirls of white. Larimar with inclusions is not sought after for jewelry but we love inclusions! The inclusions in Larimar are generally caused by volcanic iron that has oxidized inside the stone. It's name is said to come from the Spanish word Mar, which means sea. Larimar has a hardness of 4.5 - 5 (or harder), streaks white, and is in the Triclinic crystal system.
