Lapis Lazuli is a metamorphic rock that has a beautiful royal blue color, although it can come in other shades of blue as well. It contains Lazurite (the blue mineral), Pyrite (gold specks), Calcite (white), and sometimes others. The best way to distinguish Lapis from Sodalite is by performing the streak test. Please see the video below. Sodalite will streak white and Lapis will streak blue. There are many cases where you may not see the Pyrite in the Lapis and then think it's Sodalite. Trust me on this one. Streak it! Lapis Lazuli is a 5-6 on the MOHs hardness scale and it's usually opaque. It is said that some of the metaphysical properties of Lapis Lazuli may include:
