ANDALUSITE - CHIASTOLITE

The Cross Stone

Andalusite is an aluminum silicate mineral of the orthorhombic crystal system. It's color is brown, red-brown, pinkish and sometimes other colors. It's hardness is 6.5 to 7.5 on the MOHS hardness scale. It can be transparent, translucent or opaque, and it streaks white. Andalusite can sometimes have what's called pleochroism, where something has different colors when observed at different angles, especially with polarized light.

Chiastolite is a variety of the mineral Andalusite that has cross-shaped black inclusions of graphite. For this reason, Chiastolite is called the Cross Stone.

Some of the metaphysical properties may include:

  • Protection
  • Spiritual grounding
  • Spiritual sight and clarity
  • Harmony
  • Past life recall
  • Balance
  • Associated with the root, sacral and third eye chakras.
  • The Chiastolite (Cross Stone) may take on additional properties for those who associate with the cross.
