Recommended supplies, props and techniques for the following senses:
Olfactory (smell): candles, sage, spices, herbs, palo santo wood, incense, fresh flowers, essential oils (please research first), various religious-specific foods and drinks.
Kinesthetic (Movement): mala/prayer beads, rosary beads, feathers, dream catcher, mandalas for coloring, chimes, tingshas, videos that encourage movement (yoga, tai chi, etc.), singing bowl, dreidel, and other religious-specific items.
Tactile (Touch): minerals/crystals, mala/prayer beads, rosary beads, feathers, dream-catcher, flowers (fake or fresh), shells, rocks, holy water, natural materials such as baskets or woven tapestries, altar cloth, table-top water fountain, dreidel, and other religious-specific items.
Visual (Sight): candles, battery-operated candles, mandalas, statues or religious knick-knacks, inspirational cards or pictures, feathers, dream catcher, printed pictures of religious figures or inspirational sayings and images, flowers (fake or fresh), salt lamps, lava lamps, table-top water fountain, holy water, dreidel, and other religious-specific items.
Gustatory (Taste): wine (if allowed), non-alcoholic wine, grape juice, sea salt or Himalayan salt, other foods related to specific religion such as matzah, communion wafers and so on.

Sensory Stimulation: Tips and Techniques Staff Inservice - 50% OFF
This 60-90 minute introductory inservice is designed to assist the Recreation/Activity Director, or Staff Educator in providing an overview, as well as tips and techniques of sensory stimulation as it pertains to older adults and elders. The inservice comes with a handout, teacher's outline, certificate of attendance, inservice sign in sheet, flyer, interactive exercise, and inservice evaluation form. The educator may wish to split this into 2 sessions. Participants will be able to:
*identify residents who would benefit from sensory stimulation.
*identify the A.P.I.E. process and how it relates to sensory stimulation.
*discuss and utilize at least one facilitation technique for each sense.
*recognize resident responses to various forms of stimuli.
*complete a theme-related sensory planning guide.
