The CMS guidance to surveyors places a strong emphasis on an interdisciplinary approach to quality of life. The CNA plays an integral role in the provision of meaningful activities.
Examples include:
• Assist Recreation staff with motivating residents to participate in activities
• Assist in transporting residents to and from activity areas
• Assist in setting up and cleaning up group activity (putting tables back, etc.)
• Monitor safety and positioning of residents
• Release restraints
• Work with residents who are not involved in the group activities
• Offer snacks and fluids
• Provide range of motion
• Provide manicures and hand massages
• Offer ADL interventions such as beauty and grooming
• Offer individualized sensory stimulation
• Offer individualized activity in accordance with the comprehensive care plan
• Engage in friendly conversation and reminiscence
• Hand out magazines/books
• Toilet as needed: tend to personal needs
• Provide meaningful activity when no formal programs are offered by the Recreation staff
• Utilize supplies and equipment available in activity areas and return supplies after use
