Writing is a great activity which provides opportunity to express creativity, share stories, communication, and lessons learned, and so on. We all know how therapeutic writing can be. Here’s a simple activity your residents can participate in.
Have the Residents identify what life means to them. Start with the letter A and go through the alphabet if you can. Write all the answers on a dry erase board, large papers or chalk board. You can even type out their A-Z answers and post it or put in the facility newsletter. This activity can take place with a small group, one to one, or independently.
Life Means to me:
A - Animals
B - Bingo
C - Children
D - Dancing in the rain
E - Eating
F -
Flowers
You can have residents do this for themselves or as a group with several answers for each letter. This really gets residents thinking about what is important to them and what makes them happy. This is also a wonderful activity for yourself, especially if you like to journal.
Have fun.
